Moble phone have undergone a yearly generational upgrade cycle. Correspondingly, the housing materials have evolved from initial plastics to today’s metals, ceramics, glass, carbon fiber, and other high‑strength composites, and the associated machining processes have experienced significant changes.

In earlier aluminum‑magnesium alloy housings, the inner frame was primarily machined using solid carbide end mills, while the upper and lower outer‑frame chamfering was performed with PCD chamfering tools for roughing and MCD chamfering tools for finishing. Functional holes and slots were processed using PCD single‑flute small‑diameter end mills.

In contrast, more recent mobile phone constructions feature an aluminum‑alloy square middle frame combined with a glass front panel and a metallic rear cover. However, the current design adopts a steel‑structure middle frame, a curved glass front panel, and a curved ceramic back panel, with the frame contour being machined by PCD profile milling cutters.
