Superhard cutting tools for gear box machining mainly include: combined tools for transmission housing machining, and PCBN (polycrystalline cubic boron nitride) tools for post‑heat‑treatment turning of gears and shafts. Gears are typically made of 20CrMnTi steel with carburizing and quenching, reaching a hardness of HRC 60. Currently, the post‑heat‑treatment turning process employs PCBN tools. Depending on the specific machining locations, PCBN indexable inserts (with brazed tips) are adopted to achieve the turning‑instead‑of‑grinding process for internal bores and end faces.
