Cast Iron Cylonder Liner
The cylinder liner is considered the heart of a diesel engine. It is typically manufactured from boron‑alloyed gray cast iron or abrasion‑resistant cast iron. The finished component must meet stringent requirements for roundness, concentricity, and surface roughness (with a cross‑hatch pattern), as well as extended tool life. In the machining process, cemented carbide tools are commonly employed for roughing operations, while PCBN (polycrystalline cubic boron nitride) tools are reserved for finishing. Representative tooling configurations are illustrated in the figure: PCBN tools for finishing the external cylindrical surface and both inner and outer chamfers are depicted in the first row; the multi‑blade boring tool for machining the internal bore appears in the last row. After boring, honing is subsequently carried out to generate the required cross‑hatch pattern.
